                                    History

                                    In March 1972, a number of Catholic families in the Plymouth, Canton, Livonia and Westland areas banded together and petitioned the Archdiocese of Detroit to permit the formation of a new parish, to be founded on a spirit of family togetherness and cooperation, a community of faith, worship and love.  The group began celebrating Mass at Fiegel Elementary School on Joy Road and soon became known as the "Catholic Community of Joy".  By August 1972, more than 300 families were registered when the official parish status was granted and the "Church of the Divine Savior" was born.

                                        March 1972 -  Mass celebrations began at Fiegel Elementary School.   

                                        August 1973 - Official Parish Status is granted.  Fr. Gerald Flannery is the founding Pastor.

                                        April 1977 - Groundbreaking ceremonies take place at the site of the original building.  The corner  stone was laid on December 18th.

                                        April 1978 - Bishop Shoenherr along with Fr. Flannery celebrate the dedication of the Church building and facilities.

                                        June 1980 - Fr. Alexander Kuras is appointed as the 2nd Pastor of Divine Savior.

                                        June 1991 - Groundbreaking ceremonies take place of the permanent worship space and additional facilities.

                                        November 1992 - Archbishop Maida along with Fr. Kuras celebrate the dedication of the permanent sanctuary.

                                       November 1998 - Our 25th Anniversary as a parish is celebrated.     May 2000 - Dedication of the newly completed Anastasia Kuras' Mother's Memorial Garden is celebrated.

                                       April 2001 
                                    - The First Celebration takes place on Holy Thursday in the newly completed Father Solanas Casey Chapel.

                                       May 2001 - The status of our Blessed Mother "Our Confidence" is dedicated in the Mother's Garden.

                                       June 2001 - Bishop Shoenherr presides at the dedication of the new chapel.

                                       November 2003 - The Parish of the Divine Savior celebrates its 30th year of serving God's people.
