                                      Explanation of “Youth Mass”

For our purposes here in Divine Savior Parish, these Masses are designated for children and teens of all ages to take a more active part in the liturgy. They can sign up or volunteer for whatever role they can handle. Adults will mentor or assist as necessary. Some roles (Lector and Eucharistic Minister) are for confirmed, trained persons. Anyone who is able can take on the other roles-- for example: Greeter/Hospitality Minister, Cross-Bearer, Book-Holder, Candle-Bearer, Passing the Collection Baskets, Presentation of the Gifts (Offertory Procession), etc.

At these Masses the Liturgy of the Word with Children always takes place. See a full explanation of LWC elsewhere. The children are “dismissed” after the opening prayer. Trained Leaders and Assistants “break open” the Word of God with children age 5 and above. The children recite the Apostles’ Creed and add to the Prayer of the Faithful (Intercessions). They may place their offering in a basket or contribute a non-perishable food item. The children return to their families during the collection.

If you have any other suggestions of how to involve the children in the Mass or would like to assist at these Masses, please be in touch with Sister Gemma.
